Technical Outreach

As part of the technical outreach, ORNL provides customized training in nuclear-related topics to a wide variety of government users. Training content is focused by working with the requestor to develop the appropriate content and then to determine and acquire the appropriate subject matter experts from across the DOE complex. Classification of the training can range from Unclassified to Top Secret, depending upon the audience clearance level, the subject, and need to know. Governmental entities that have accessed this resource include elements from: the Executive Branch, Department of Energy, Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense, FEMA, emergency planning coordinators from Federal, State and local levels, and law enforcement ranging from the FBI to Customs to State and Local law enforcement personnel. Depending on sponsor needs, the level can range from cursory familiarity to in-depth technical reviews. Duration can range from a few hours to 5 days or more, at the most appropriate location, whether Oak Ridge, the sponsor site, other DOE sites, or third party venues. Group size can range from one-on-one, student-paced instruction to workshop formats up to about 40 per session.
