Welcome
to the Cyberspace
Sciences and Information Intelligence Research (CSIIR) Group, the Information
Operations Center
(IOC), and the Center for Quantum Information Science (CQIS)
website at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory. We have designed this site to be used by both the public
and ORNL staff to find out more about what we do. Please take the time
to follow the provided links and find out what research we are
currently developing here at ORNL.
Mission
and Goals
Conduct
basic-applied research toward building truly secure, trusted systems beyond best practices.
Fundamentally, seek
to understand the threats
in the context of our critical assets and
information infrastructure; to develop innovative end-to-end integrated
core
capabilities and solutions to deny adversaries the opportunity to find
and
exploit vulnerabilities; to validate advanced technologies that
can be
brought to defend, preserve and minimize risk; and to enable equitable information
access and real-time
situation awareness. Specific
goals include:
- Understand
existing and emerging threats;
- Advance
state-of-the-art in insider threat detection, deterrence, and
mitigation;
- Ensure
continuing security, survivability, and dependability of national
critical infrastructure through pro-active scalable rapid prototyped
technologies.

We
manage ORNL’s Information Operations Center (IOC), a
cross-disciplinary
research and development organization providing real-time operational
support
for ensuring information superiority. We
are leading the effort to establish the Center for Quantum Information
Science
(CQIS). QIS advances promise significant benefits to society. Research
thrusts
include quantum theory, quantum information pr ocessing,
entangled-photons,
quantum optics, quantum cryptography, and quantum source. Both centers
leverage
the best of ORNL’s science and facilities and strong
collaboration with
academia.
